As a result, I’ve had the opportunity to see thousands of agents, from start to finish, and learn from how they’ve reached success and grown their business. Here are my observations on what makes these top Realtors so successful.
VIDEO: What Makes Top Realtors Successful
Willingness to get uncomfortable
One of the most important keys to success that you can learn from the top Realtors is a willingness to get uncomfortable. It’s human nature to look for comfort and do what feels natural. It is easy to come up with excuses for why you don’t want to do something that is uncomfortable. “That’s not who I am.” “I’m not good at technology so that’s just not my thing.” “I don’t feel comfortable saying that.” “I’m not a big detail person — I don’t like spreadsheets.” “I don’t like calendaring.” These are all excuses.
I could go on and on listing uncomfortable activities that many Realtors refuse to do. Top Realtors don’t allow their personal feelings to get in their way. They push themselves to get uncomfortable because they know it will lead to success. Something that looks like “pain” may cause discomfort but results in long term growth and success. Take a look at The Comfort Zone graphic below. You must move from where you feel safe and in control and push yourself through fear, learning, and into growth. In the video within this blog post, I will walk you through The Comfort Zone circles.
Willingness to keep getting uncomfortable
So, unfortunately, you don’t need to get uncomfortable just once — you need to keep getting uncomfortable. The top Realtors will tell you that it takes time. Over and over, you must keep getting uncomfortable, until you get good at it. It’s a lot like many things in life that you need to practice. For example, if you want to be a surfer. You may push yourself to get uncomfortable, take lessons, and realize how hard it is. Some would conclude, Oh, surfing just isn’t for me.
It’s necessary for you to keep getting uncomfortable in order to learn how to do it. Which, of course, will result in getting more comfortable. It’s not going to be fun for a while. It takes time and perseverance. The same thing applies to the mentality that top Realtors have when it comes to getting uncomfortable with their real estate business and daily tasks.
There are many tasks that Realtors may find uncomfortable. For example, lead generation is something that you need to do every single day. Many Realtors find this to be the most uncomfortable activity. Time management is another topic within real estate that can be very uncomfortable. Both lead generation and time management are aspects of your business that you absolutely need to grow your income as well as achieve a healthy work/life balance.
