Discover why your real estate reels aren't getting views and learn how to fix it fast with expert tips from ICT Coach Nick Baldwin.

Let’s talk about a hard truth: your real estate reels aren’t landing—and it’s not just because of the algorithm.

I know, it’s easy to point fingers at Meta or TikTok and say they’re throttling your content. But the reality? Most real estate agents are creating reels that speak to the wrong people, using weak hooks, and posting content that simply isn’t engaging enough to stop the scroll. If you’re serious about using social media to generate leads and grow your business, then it’s time to start making real estate reels that people actually want to watch.

In this article, I’ll break down exactly why your reels are getting ignored—and what you can do to fix it fast.

VIDEO: Why No One’s Watching Your Real Estate Reels – And How to Fix It

1. You’re Making Real Estate Reels for Other Agents, Not Buyers or Sellers

This is mistake number one. I see it every day.

You’re creating content that impresses your peers instead of serving your potential clients. Look, other realtors might love your new headshot, the number of open houses you’ve hosted, or your latest production stats—but your clients don’t care. Your audience is buyers, sellers, and homeowners, not the agents down the street.

So stop making content for the wrong crowd.

Start asking yourself:

  • What does a first-time buyer need to know right now?

  • What common fears do sellers in your market have?

  • What market tips would be truly helpful to someone considering a move?

Your content should answer questions, solve problems, and add value. That’s how you start creating real estate reels that matter.

2. Your Hook Isn’t Hooking Anyone

In the world of short-form video, the first three seconds are everything. If your reel doesn’t grab attention immediately, viewers will scroll right past it.

Stop opening your videos with:

  • “Hey guys…”

  • “Just wanted to hop on real quick…”

  • “So I was thinking…”

These are all instant scroll-triggers. They do nothing to grab attention or give the viewer a reason to stay.

Instead, lead with impact. Try something like:

  • “Here’s the #1 mistake buyers make in this market…”

  • “Before you list your home, you need to hear this…”

  • “Don’t buy another house until you watch this!”

When you start strong, you give viewers a reason to keep watching. That’s the difference between a reel that dies on the feed and one that gets shared.

3. Your Content Isn’t Offering Value

Value is the currency of attention.

People engage with content that teaches them something, helps them solve a problem, or makes them feel something. If your reel doesn’t do at least one of those things, it’s not going to perform well—no matter how often you post.

To make your real estate reels more valuable, ask:

  • Am I answering a real question buyers/sellers are asking?

  • Am I making the process easier for someone watching?

  • Am I adding insights that position me as the expert?

Content doesn’t have to be groundbreaking. Even simple explainer videos like “How to prep your home for a showing” or “What happens after an offer is accepted?” can deliver big-time value if they’re clear and well-structured.

4. You’re Not Focused on Quality—But You Should Be

Good content starts with great basics.

I’m not saying you need to hire a production team or buy a DSLR camera. But if your video is dark, hard to hear, or doesn’t have captions—people are going to scroll.

Here’s what you need to focus on:

  • Lighting: Stand in front of a window or grab an affordable ring light. Natural light is your best friend.

  • Audio: Use a lav mic or talk directly into your phone in a quiet room. Bad audio kills engagement faster than anything else.

  • Captions: Add subtitles to every video. Most users watch on mute, especially on Instagram or Facebook. If they can’t understand what you’re saying, they’ll never engage.

Reels that look and sound decent are far more likely to perform well—even if the message is simple.

5. You’re Still Blaming the Algorithm

Let’s stop using the algorithm as a scapegoat.

Yes, platforms like Instagram and Facebook are constantly changing how they distribute content. But that doesn’t mean you’re powerless. The algorithm rewards content that people engage with—likes, comments, shares, and watch time. If your content is valuable, targeted, and well-executed, the algorithm will work in your favor.

Instead of blaming the system, ask:

  • Am I posting consistently?

  • Am I testing different hooks?

  • Am I engaging with comments and messages?

  • Am I sharing content that resonates with my ideal client?

Shifting your mindset from algorithm-focused to audience-focused is the single most powerful move you can make.

Most real estate agents are creating reels that speak to the wrong people, using weak hooks, and posting content that simply isn’t engaging enough to stop the scroll. If you’re serious about using social media to generate leads and grow your business, then it’s time to start making real estate reels that people actually want to watch.

Pro Tips to Get Your Real Estate Reels Seen

Here are a few quick wins to level up your real estate reels:

  • Use trending sounds (but only if they match your message)

  • Keep videos under 30 seconds when possible

  • Batch content so you can stay consistent without feeling overwhelmed

  • Use hashtags that your audience is searching, like #HomeBuyingTips or #ListYourHome

  • Repurpose content across platforms—Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, and even YouTube Shorts

Remember, your goal isn’t just to go viral. Your goal is to stay visible, build trust, and stay top-of-mind with your audience. That’s what leads to real conversations and real closings.

Final Thoughts from Coach Nick

You don’t have to be a full-time influencer to win at social media.

You just have to know your audience, deliver real value, and show up consistently. Real estate reels are one of the most powerful tools we have to reach today’s buyers and sellers. But you have to use them strategically—not just for vanity metrics, but to build relationships and grow your business.

So the next time you hit record, remember this:
Stop blaming the algorithm. Start creating content your future clients actually want to watch.
