Use this leadership training video for real estate agents to help explain the concept of failing forward in order to get into action quickly to grow their businesses.
The big question in today’s leadership training video for real estate agents: Are you willing to change?
Putting in new systems (new rituals, new routines) and adopting new mindsets, getting uncomfortable … all of the concepts we’ve talked about for the past few months come from a willingness to change and do things differently.

Leadership training video for real estate: fail forward
Give yourself some grace. This is a concept that I talk about a lot: “failing forward.” You need to fail forward yourself and give yourself some grace for the mistakes you are going to make.
And, as a leader, you need to let your people fail, and be okay with that.
Sometimes they’ll mess something up, and you need to accept it and not take the task back from them. “If something needs to be done right, I need to do it myself” is not a successful mindset for leaders to have. You need to be okay with mistakes. Top Producers are able to let go and fail forward.
To go from a good warrior to a good chief, in any business, you need to be okay with failing forward.
When you are learning a new habit, you are going to experience some degree of failure. If you are going to make any positive change, this is going to happen, and you need to learn to be okay with that.
Leadership training video for real estate: fail in order to grow
In real estate, there will be times when you:
- can’t hold your time blocks
- forget to look at your calendar
- forget to put things in your calendar
- want to quit and run back to the comfort zone
- have emotions that get outside the lines
Understand that growth comes from a mindset of three steps forward, two steps back.
Learn from the Top Producers
We coach mega agents and massive teams, luxury agents and broker owners. These folks make millions upon millions of dollars every year. They didn’t get there overnight. They didn’t easily take five steps forward each week. Quite the opposite.
These successful individuals have experienced so many failures that got them to where they are now. It was slow and grueling. But they kept getting uncomfortable and failing forward.
Embrace failure. Everything does not need to be perfect. You must be okay with taking risks to get uncomfortable.
The most important tasks and activities you do that will ultimately propel you into growth are not “fun” or “easy.”
It’s so easy to give up and retreat back to the comfort zone. “Oh, I just didn’t gel with that coach.” “Following that routine was too hard for me.” “I don’t have time to put all of my sphere of influence (SOI) contacts into my CRM and make the daily contacts.”
Leadership training video for real estate: failure is unavoidable
It’s not about whether or not you fall off the horse. You will fall of the horse. It’s about how fast you get back on the horse.
You will fail. Many times. The key is that you must run into the failure quickly. Embrace it. It’s the only way to grow.
It’s also the only way to let go and give tasks to your agents and staff. This is what it means to be a good leader.
Fail, and learn from your mistakes
You have to encourage your people to take risks and not get mad every time they make a mistake, so long as they learn from it.
The person who fails the most succeeds at the highest level.
I have failed more time in my personal life and my business life than I care to count. I would say I have failed probably more than most people. But, I am also more successful than most people.
The people who are the highest producers and most influential in this industry have failed more than you.
Weighing the risk vs. the reward
I talk about this in today’s leadership training video for real estate agents. You must move forward with this mindset. It’s all about weighing the risk vs. the reward.
I call it “going forward sloppy.”
S and C behaviors, who are perfectionists, have the hardest time with this. You must let go and make mistakes. You must let the fires burn and focus on the activities that get you results. Don’t worry about putting out all the fires.
Letting fires burn is hard. It takes mental discipline. It takes focus, and rituals/routines will help. It’s very uncomfortable. Go forward sloppy.
Leadership training video for real estate: setting expectations
Set this expectation with yourself so you won’t be so emotional when things go wrong. Remember, keep your emotions between the lines.
Real estate is a low conversion rate business. Everything about it. You are going to get a ton of “no”s before you get any “yes”s.
If you have the proper expectations going in, you can celebrate your wins when they do happen. And along the way, you can stay positive while you wait for that win.
It’s a numbers game. Keep playing the numbers. You know the “yes” is coming. Get through the “no”s.
It works if you stick with it, so you must fail forward.
Fail forward and stay positive
The Top Producers know how to stay positive in everything they do. You must stay positive. You’ll be everyone’s favorite.
Don’t dwell on mistakes. Dwelling on your own mistakes will create negativity in your life. And dwelling on your people’s mistakes, as their leader, isn’t healthy for your organization and it certainly won’t help your people improve and grow.
Leadership training video for real estate: be a positive leader
If you are happy and positive, your people will have a less stressful experience. If you are stressed out and negative, because you aren’t sticking to your routines and rituals, and you aren’t using your systems, then they are not going to enjoy the process of working with you. Their emotions will mirror your emotions.
The way you act will teach others how to think. Your emotions will rub off on others. Whether it be your family, your team members, or your clients.
Stay positive in everything you do. Fail forward and make mistakes. When you try to change behaviors and your mindset in pursuit of success, you are going to make mistakes. Give yourself grace and go forward sloppy.
Successful people are happy. So start acting like you’re a successful person and be freaking happy.
